The Animal Kingdom of Africa has a wide spectrum of
wildlife species. Here are a fascinating few, in their
natural environment - wild and free!

Elephants are highly social, intelligent animals and live in a well
ordered society. The largest
of the land mammals, their lifespan
is 50-60 years.

Leopards are solitary, secretive animals, hunting at night and lying in
secluded spots during
the day, their lifespan is 15 years. Bushbabies
are nocturnal, accomplished jumpers, these attractive little animals
occur mainly in pairs.

Genets have well developed hearing, sight and smell, they are solitary,
nocturnal,
graceful and take to the trees when disturbed. Zebra form
large herds, are plucky and are frequently found in the company of
other grazing animals.

Lions are the most sociable of the cats, live in prides and are extremely
vocal, their lifespan is
13-15 years. Dassies are rabbit-sized creatures,
live in colonies, have acute hearing, keen eyesight and make shrill
whistles
and barks when alerted.

Impala form large herds and are often in the company of other species.
By virtue of their numbers, they make an
important contribution to the
on going fight for survival. Kudu associate in small family groups, occupy
the same home
range for several years and are well suited to rugged
hilly terrain.

The Hippopotamus for all it`s bulk, is capable of surprising speed and agility,
they are usually found
submerged in water or sunbathing. The Rhinoceros is
an ungainly animal with poor eyesight, but has an acute sense of hearing
and smell.

Hyaenas depend largely on their sense of smell, live in family clans, share
sleeping dens, are territorial
and are extremely vocal animals. The Cheetahs
method of hunting is fast and relatively short, clear view and speed are
more important than stealth.

Wild Dogs rely mainly on smell, hearing, are alert, intelligent and cunning
in behaviour, they are
nomadic and live in packs. Giraffe have abnormally
elongated necks, sharp eyesight and are the tallest animals in the world.
Vervet Monkeys are capable of a wide range of facial expressions and
are found in large troops.
